I am sorry for my revert, but the recent expansion adds extreme clutter. This template is transcluded from a large number of pages. If you want to create a giant "list of scripts" template, please do it under an alternative title (and select a limited number of articles where transclusion may be appropriate). dab (𒁳) 14:52, 7 September 2008 (UTC)

ok, I've tried to solve this by separating the full clutter to {{List of writing systems}} and keeping a sleek version at {{Writing systems}}. Wikipedia needs a constant effort at countering the natural tendency towards excessive template clutter. dab (𒁳) 15:00, 7 September 2008 (UTC)

"somacheirographic" and "somacheirogram" aren't real words.

Can we please have these neologisms removed from the template? Wikipedia is the only website that uses these terms, they are NOT listed in ANY dictionary. Clearly some editor has devised these words and decided to impose their neologism upon everyone else. It's utterly ludicrous for Wikipedia to use a neologism that no user can possibly find the meaning for. 1.157.95.133 (talk) 16:43, 11 June 2021 (UTC)

Remove "somacheirograms" and replace it with "others" or "sign languages". "somacheirographic" and "somacheirogram" aren't real words and they are not listed in ANY dictionary. It is absolutely ludicrous for Wikipedia to use neologisms, especially neologisms with no actual dictionary definition. How is a user supposed to understand what is being said when a hitherto unused and unheard-of word is used, especially when a far less ambiguous term could be used like "sign languages'. 1.157.95.133 (talk) 16:47, 11 June 2021 (UTC) 1.157.95.133 (talk) 16:47, 11 June 2021 (UTC)

Change Coorgi–Cox_alphabet from the Alphabets section to the Abugidas section, as it is not an alphabet despite the name. 2405:6581:A9A0:2E00:A1EC:DEA2:DDEE:107 (talk) 11:12, 6 July 2021 (UTC)

@2405:6581:A9A0:2E00:A1EC:DEA2:DDEE:107: It is an alphabet, which I corrected in the article. --Glennznl (talk) 13:40, 6 July 2021 (UTC)

What's the point of the "current examples" section?

It's definitely not a comprehensive list of what writing systems are currently used. It seems strange to single these ones out, and also has political undertones. I think it might be better to not have a section like this.--Yellow Diamond Δ Direct Line to the Diamonds 23:05, 13 January 2022 (UTC)
