ഇറ്റലിയിൽ താമസമുറപ്പിച്ച് പ്രകൃതിചിത്രീകരണം നടത്തിയിരുന്ന ഫ്രഞ്ച് കലാകാരനായിരുന്നു ക്ലോദ് ലോറെയ്ൻ.( 1600 – 23 നവം:1682).ക്ലോദ് ഷെല്ലി എന്നും ഇദ്ദേഹത്തെ വിളിച്ചിരുന്നു. ചിത്രങ്ങളിലെ പ്രകാശ നിയന്ത്രണമായിരുന്നു ക്ലോദിന്റെ പ്രത്യേകത. പിൽക്കാലത്തുള്ള ചിത്രകാരന്മാരെ ഇതു സ്വാധീനിക്കുകയുണ്ടായി. തീരദേശചിത്രീകരണമാണ് ലോറെയ്ന്റെ മറ്റൊരു വൈശിഷ്ട്യം.
