Herman J. Mankiewicz (7 Kasım 1897 - 5 Mart 1953) Akademi Ödüllü Amerikalı senaristtir. Orson Welles ile birlikte yazdığı sinema tarihinin en önemli ve en tartışmalı filmlerinden biri olarak kabul edilen Yurttaş Kane (Citizen Kane) senaryosu ile tanınır.

Hayatı

Mankiewicz, Columbia Üniversitesi ve Berlin Üniversitesi'nde eğitim gördü. Almanya'dan göçeden bir Yahudi ailesinde doğan Mankiewicz Joseph L. Mankiewicz'in büyük kardeşidir. Çocukları Don Mankiewicz senarist, Frank Mankiewicz politikacı ve Johanna Mankiewicz Davis yazardır. Mankiewicz 1926'da The New Yorker dergisindeki drama editörlüğü göreviden Hollywood'da yazmak için ayrıldı. Orson Welles ile birlikte yazdığı Yurtttaş Kane ile En İyi Özgün Senaryo Akademi Ödülü sahibi oldu.
