The women's basketball tournament at the 2024 Summer Olympics will be the 21st edition of the event for women at the Summer Olympic Games. It will be held from 28 July to 11 August 2024. Preliminary matches will occur at Pierre Mauroy Stadium in Lille, with the final phase staged at the Accor Arena in Paris.
The twelve teams will be split into three groups of four teams, and a single round-robin will be held within each group. The first- and second-placed teams of each group advance to the quarterfinals as well as the two best third-placed teams. After the preliminary round, the teams will be grouped according to their results, and a draw pair teams between the groups for the quarterfinals. For the draw the teams will be seeded in four pots, with the top two-ranked teams (Pot D), 3rd–4th ranked teams (Pot E), 5–6th ranked teams (Pot F) and 7–8th ranked teams (Pot G). Teams from Pot D face a team from Pot G and teams from Pot E a team from Pot F. Teams from the same group can't face each other again. If both teams from Pot D qualify for the semifinals, they can not play against each other.

The draw was held on 19 March 2024.
The 12 teams were divided into four pots of three teams based on their FIBA World Ranking. The three groups were formed by drawing one team from each pot. Two teams from the same continent could not be placed into the same group, with the exception of European teams, where up to two teams could be in the same group.
For broadcast purposes, defending champions the United States and hosts France were both be drawn into either Group B or C.
The seeding was announced on 15 March 2024.
