Calflora is an environmental non-profit organization (501(c)(3)) that maintains a database of California plants for public use. Calflora's mission is to provide data on California wild plants in a readily usable format while contributing to academic, educational, scientific, and land management public needs.[1]

History

Calflora was created in 1994 by Dr. Ann Dennis as an online database for California plants. In 1997, Calflora began collaborating with the UC Berkeley Digital Library Research Project to add wildflower images to existing occurrence data.[2][3] Calflora was granted status as a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt non-profit organization in 2001.[2]

Description

Calflora's website contains a search function that allows users to search for California plants by scientific or common name, life form, duration, native status, community, or county.

The database contains individual pages on California plants with information including estimated range, number of Calflora observations, bloom period, taxonomy, and habitat.
