Dale Mackey (born 22 February 2006) is an Australian media personality, interviewer and content creator, and autistic public figure. He is best known for his appearances on the ABC television series The Assembly and for conducting interviews with various figures from film, television, and video games on his YouTube channel.
Career
Mackey began working in media in 2024 when he was cast as one of the student interviewers on the ABC program The Assembly.[1] Over the course of the season, Mackey appeared in seven episodes, conducting interviews with notable Australian public figures including Sam Neill, Delta Goodrem, Anthony Albanese, Adam Goodes, and Amanda Keller.[2]
Following the conclusion of The Assembly, Mackey participated in his first press junket for the animated film Transformers One, interviewing director Josh Cooley for ABC News.[3]
In December 2024, Mackey launched his own interview series on YouTube, conducting video interviews with a range of actors, media personalities, and gaming industry figures. Notable guests have included Debra Wilson, Roger Clark, Leigh Sales, Chris Medland, Rob Wiethoff, and Glen Schofield.[4]
In addition to his work in television and online media, Mackey has been featured on radio programs including the Jonesy & Amanda.[5] He was also on ABC Breakfast for Transformers One.
Recognition
The Assembly received critical attention for its unique format, with The Sydney Morning Herald describing it as "a bold show that puts 15 autistic students in charge".[6] The series was nominated for an AACTA Award and a Logie Award in 2025.[7][8]
