The Institute of Contemporary Music Performance (ICMP) is a specialist music and creative business school in the United Kingdom. There are four campuses – two in London, one in Leeds and one in Liverpool.
The ICMP has been developing and delivering music degrees and contemporary music courses for over 40 years.[1]
Founded in 1986,[2] by session guitarist Alan Limbrick, the Institute was originally known as The Guitar Institute[3] & BassTech, and was focused exclusively on training and developing guitarists and bassists.[citation needed]
The school rebranded to The Institute of Contemporary Music Performance in 2006 and now also offers courses in drums, vocals, song writing, music production, audio engineering, music business and digital marketing.[4]
In 2021, ICMP was granted full degree awarding powers by the Office for Students (OFS), affording the institution the authority to award certificates, diplomas and degrees up to and including Master’s level qualifications from September 2022.[5]
In 2023 ICMP became part of the AD Education Group.[6] AD Education includes a group of 21 creative colleges.[7]
In 2025 the ICMP launched new sites in Liverpool and Leeds in partnership with SAE Institute UK.[8]
