This is really just one columnist's perspective and doesn't appear, based on this single source, to reflect a broader controversy. Is there a source indicating that this was a larger controversy at these Olympics? I'm totally willing to believe that it was; I just don't think this source supports it, and I definitely don't think it supports the idea enough to put it in the intro of the section.
