Template-protected edit request on October 1 2021

I would like to request the the seemingly random {{{info}}} code be removed from the top of the page. It appears like it's not meant to be there or something's not showing up right. If it's supposed to be there let me know. ― Blaze The WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 15:33, 1 October 2021 (UTC)

Not done: It's not random. It's showing you what an empty version of the template looks like. It could be better, I suppose. Feel free to modify the sandbox to propose a change. – Jonesey95 (talk) 16:37, 1 October 2021 (UTC)
Ah ok. Looks a bit odd but alright. I think it's mainly because it doesn't actually look like a userbox. ― Blaze The WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 13:49, 4 October 2021 (UTC)

Categorising user pages in Category:Userboxes with insufficient color contrast

@GKFX: is it because of your recent edits that user pages are showing up in Category:Userboxes with insufficient color contrast (24,073)? I.e. the category is being transcluded from the templates to the user pages. – Fayenatic London 21:50, 31 January 2023 (UTC)

broken spacing? (January 2024)

Resolved

Template:Userboxtop and Template:Userboxgroup seem to be broken, adding a lot of extra space, as of January 2024. See how it looks on the right-hand side [here.

Was there a recent formatting change? Maybe related to this merge discussion? Caleb Stanford (talk) 00:19, 3 January 2024 (UTC)

That linked page looks fine to me. Maybe post a screen shot? – Jonesey95 (talk) 00:28, 3 January 2024 (UTC)
It looks like the editor did a temp fix, which is probably why it looks ok now.
I think the issue is due to an internally used template being marked for TfD. Once that discussion is over, that notification template should be removed, and everything should be fine again. - jc37 01:07, 3 January 2024 (UTC)
Oops, fixed the link. Also, here's a direct demonstration on the RHS in this talk section.
@Jc37: OK, thanks for the input. Caleb Stanford (talk) 01:29, 3 January 2024 (UTC)
Thanks for the demonstration. It looks like this problem has been resolved by the closing of the TFD. – Jonesey95 (talk) 14:53, 3 January 2024 (UTC)

Userspace categories are still being added in Template space

I noticed in doing some maintenance that {{User Soaring Sky! Pretty Cure}} is being inappropriately added to Category:Wikipedians who like Pretty Cure by the |usercategory=Wikipedians who like Pretty Cure code in the userbox. I believe that this should not be happening. Templates should live in template categories, and User pages that transclude the userboxes should be assigned the User categories. It looks like this discussion from 2014 tried to address the issue but went nowhere.

The problem can be worked around using includeonly tags, but the template should just do the right thing. If I knew Lua, I would try to fix it, but I do not. If the Lua code could somehow provide the equivalent of includeonly tags, that might do the trick. – Jonesey95 (talk) 06:17, 22 September 2023 (UTC)

It doesn't help that many userboxes are already in the template namespace. Inexperienced editors often look at source-code for existing pages (as a guideline when creating their own pages) and don't rarely read the entire help page. I added a cautionary message to WP:CREATEUBX just now. I don't know if it will help. Emdosis (talk) 22:22, 1 August 2024 (UTC)

Request: Dark Mode

Dark Mode please. Bcxfu75k (talk) 02:08, 6 August 2024 (UTC)

Set the "id-c" and "id-fc" variables to appropriate colours when you invoke the template, and you can have light mode, dark mode, neon mode, or any other colour mode you want... as long as you want solid colours. --Rob Kelk 23:16, 27 November 2024 (UTC)

Add |border-style= parameter to change the CSS border-style property of the border. — TheThomanski | t | c | 16:00, 31 March 2025 (UTC)

Not done: it's not clear what changes you want to be made. Please mention the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format and provide a reliable source if appropriate. – Jonesey95 (talk) 13:45, 1 April 2025 (UTC)

Template glitch

Hello. There seems to be a glitch with the template as only the header appears not the userboxes themselves. Spectritus (talk) 13:26, 5 April 2025 (UTC)

Spectritus, could you please be more specific? On which page and which template are you trying to use? —andrybak (talk) 20:25, 12 September 2025 (UTC)

TemplateStyles support

@Matrix, regarding your "vibe coded" Special:Diff/1310987093. The new function hasValue at the very top of the diff is useless, because Module:Arguments takes care of empty strings. The whole purpose of using Module:Arguments is to avoid having to implement extra checks in the way function hasValue is used. —andrybak (talk) 20:55, 12 September 2025 (UTC)

@Andrybak: yeah fair enough, I kinda just checked if it worked on the testcases. I'll fix it tomorrow, but I'll check with you first. —Matrix ping mewhen u reply (t? - c) 21:11, 12 September 2025 (UTC)
@Matrix While you're at it, maybe check if it's possible that the edit (or the creation of Template:Userbox/styles.css? I don't know much about stylesheets etc.) caused an issue with an id/logo background appearing on the right, when none has been defined. I just noticed there were grey squares all over my user page (see this userbox, this one, and this one; none of these normally have a grey square on the right). As I said, I don't know much about module editing or stylesheets, but Template:Userbox hasn't been edited in nearly a year and there aren't any other templates or modules involved, so I feel like it might well be these edits that have caused the issue. (I would try and fix the problem myself but I wouldn't know where to start, and I'm not a template editor anyway.) Pineapple Storage (talk) 00:45, 13 September 2025 (UTC)
In retrospect, you should've tested your vibe coding on the sandbox version of the module, or at least previewed it so that you would've seen the problem (good thing the page has a table that demonstrates how userboxes appear) and not have published those changes to begin with. – MrPersonHumanGuy (talk) 02:08, 13 September 2025 (UTC)
@MrPersonHumanGuy: I did test it on the sandboxed version, and checked testcases, and everything looked fine. Maybe I missed something? Either way, I'll go back and check. —Matrix ping mewhen u reply (t? - c) 10:29, 13 September 2025 (UTC)
