Luke Cann (Basketball)

Luke Cann (born 8 May 1986) is an Australian professional Basketball coach and former player. He is currently the assistant coach for the Adelaide 36ers in the Australian National Basketball League (NBL).

Early Career

Cann served as both the State Performance Manager and High-Performance Manager for Basketball Queensland where he was tasked with identifying, developing and managing youth athletes and teams throughout a successful period for the state organisation. Within these roles he was head coach of the Queensland National Performance Program where many athletes went onto represent Australian junior national teams, attend the Centre of Excellence in Canberra and obtain college scholarships and professional contracts.

Professional Career

In 2017, Cann was appointed head coach of the Logan Thunder Womens team and led the team to an overall 15-4 record. In 2018, Cann agreed to become Head Coach of the Logan Thunder Mens team and would lead the team to a finals berth and regular season record of 14-4. Cann was named the 2018 QBL (NBL1 North) Coach of the Year. Cann would continue to lead the program to the finals for seven consecutive seasons and awarded another NBL1 North Coach of the Year in 2021.

In 2023, Cann would become a development coach for the Brisbane Bullets and subsequently earned a full-time position as assistant coach for the 2024-25 season.[1]

Prior to the 2025-26 NBL season, Cann was appointed assistant coach of the Adelaide 36ers.[2]

Junior National Team

In 2023, Cann served as an assistant coach with the Australian under-17 men's team [3]at the FIBA Under-16 Asian Championship where the team won gold. He continued as an assistant coach in 2024 for the Under-17 World Cup in Istanbul, Turkey.

Personal life

Cann is married to wife, professional Basketball player Mikhaela Cann,[4] and has three children, Adisyn, Harlo and Dallas. [5]
