This article will address the importance of Wikipedia:GLAM/LEEDS 2023 in today's society. Wikipedia:GLAM/LEEDS 2023 has gained relevance in different areas, from fashion to technology, including culture and politics. Its influence has spread significantly in recent years, generating a profound impact on the way people interact and relate to each other. That is why it is essential to analyze in depth the role that Wikipedia:GLAM/LEEDS 2023 currently plays, as well as its possible implications in the short and long term. To this end, different perspectives and case studies will be examined to better understand the importance and scope of Wikipedia:GLAM/LEEDS 2023 in contemporary society.
LEEDS 2023 is partnering with Wikimedia UK to share cultural content relating to an independent year of culture, held in Leeds. Initially proposed as a bid to the host city for European Capital of Culture, post-Brexit exclusion from European Union initiatives meant that Leeds could no longer bid. This resulted in Leeds City Council and partners deciding to run an independent year of culture in 2023.
This short-term, small-scale project will release images to Wikimedia Commons, with a focus on knowledge equity, as well as some imited page creation and DYK nomination. The project is due to end on 31 January 2024. Wikimedian Lucy Moore was employed on a freelance basis. The project ended on 1 March 2024, to include capacity for forthcoming evaluation.
