Updating stub lists
Hi folks - I have all the various sub-sections of Wikipedia:WikiProject_Stub_sorting/Stub_types on my watchlist, and I haven't noticed anyone updating those lists with the astounding number of newly created stub templates & cats. I'd greatly appreciate it if, when you create a template and/or cat, you would please update those lists - I'm just about keeping up with my various wiki jobs as it is. Thanks!! I've been checking on the myriad new stub templates and categories and notice that few, if any, are being added to the stub types lists. I'm already overloaded with closing and listing for the archives, so am unable to contribute to updating those lists. If you have been creating stub templates and categories and assuming that someone else will be updating the stub type lists, you are mistaken; that task is not assigned to anyone in particular, and in the past it was assumed that whoever created the template/category would update the lists. If you think the stub type lists are unnecessary, please start that discussion here. Thank you for your consideration. Her Pegship (?) 19:51, 29 June 2025 (UTC)
Apologies, I forgot about those lists. I've made a start on updating the sports stubs (nearly doubled in size), looks like we may need to split this at some point (maybe splitting out the bios). Once I've fully updated that one I'll pick my way through the other lists. Waacstats (talk) 13:20, 9 July 2025 (UTC)
Hi y'all - I've been moving monthly proposal pages to archive and trying to keep up on the annual archive lists. Does anyone have an opinion on the timing of removing a month from the Proposals page? Formerly I waited until all the proposed/approved templates/cats were created, but I also like to keep the Proposals page down to the most recent couple of months. If the general opinion leans one way or the other, I'd appreciate the input. Thanks! Her Pegship (?) 18:09, 2 September 2025 (UTC)
Boxcar function?
Ok, so the only actual page in Category:Stubs is Boxcar function, which is an actual stub, but all other stubs go into the categories of
Why is boxcar function in Category:Stubs and not Category:All stub articles? I don't have the technical knowledge of as to why, but I think something's wrong with this, and I wonder if anyone knows how to sort it out. AtTheTownHouse (talk) 23:59, 16 October 2025 (UTC)
(See Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Stub_sorting#Updating_stub_lists for background.) I have added a note (where no one will probably see it) on Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Stub types, which says: "Note to editors creating stub types: If you are creating a stub template and/or category which has been approved at the Stub sorting Project, please remember to update the corresponding stub type list on this page." Please, please take this to heart while y'all are creating hundreds of new templates and categories. The stub type lists are one of the few ways we can document the category hierarchy and upmerged templates. I cannot do this all by myself. Her Pegship (?) 06:13, 15 November 2025 (UTC)
Page watchers: what Pegship wants us to do is edits like these. In the first group (India) we have some stub templates that were previously upmerged, but now have their own categories. In the second group (Scotland) are stub templates and cats that were created a few years back, some by myself. In the third group (Yorkshire) are some that I created today. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 21:44, 15 November 2025 (UTC)
I am in the process of creating all of the templates that did not already exist, but I want to wait to create the categories until the templates have been added so that the categories do not get speedy-deleted for being populated solely by a template. Care to differ or discuss with me?The Nth User08:47, 2 December 2025 (UTC)
"Stub-Class" is a talk page template, usually used by wiki projects to prioritize their project tasks. "Stub" is a template used on the article page to encourage expansion by any editor, regardless of their non/membership in a project. Her Pegship (?) 21:59, 7 December 2025 (UTC)
Hi folks, sorry for the delay. I went through those lists a while back to be sure the stub types were (a) being used and (b) listed on the stub type lists. I wasn't sure of the instructions either but interpreted them my own way. I don't know if it's worth still pursuing; feel free to do what you think is best.
