মৈত্রী (সংস্কৃত: मैत्री, আইএএসটি: Maitrī, পালি: mettā) মানে দানশীলতা,[১] প্রেমময়-দয়া,[২][৩] বন্ধুত্ব,[৩][৪] সৌহার্দ্য,[৪] ভালো ইচ্ছা,[৫] এবং অন্যদের প্রতি সক্রিয় আগ্রহ।[৪] এটি চারটি সর্বশ্রেষ্ঠ রাজ্যের (ব্রহ্মবিহার) মধ্যে প্রথম এবং বৌদ্ধধর্মের থেরবাদ দর্শনের দশটি পারমিতার একটি।
কল্যাণের চাষ (মৈত্রীভাবনা) বৌদ্ধধ্যানের জনপ্রিয় রূপ।[৬] এটি ব্রহ্মবিহার (ঐশ্বরিক আবাস) ধ্যানের চারটি অপরিমেয় অংশের একটি অংশ।[৭] মৈত্রী 'করুণার ধ্যান' হিসাবে এশিয়াতে প্রায়ই সম্প্রচারিত জপ দ্বারা অনুশীলন করা হয়, যেখানে সন্ন্যাসীরা সাধারণ মানুষের জন্য জপ করে।[৬]
মৈত্রীর সমবেদনা এবং সার্বজনীন প্রেমময়-দয়া ধারণাটি বৌদ্ধধর্মের মেত্তসুত্ততে আলোচনা করা হয়েছে এবং এটি মেত্তা বা মৈত্রী হিসাবে হিন্দুধর্ম ও জৈনধর্মের প্রাচীন ও মধ্যযুগীয় গ্রন্থগুলিতেও পাওয়া যায়।[৮]
মৈত্রী রোগীদের উপর প্রেমময়-দয়া ধ্যান পদ্ধতির সম্ভাব্যতার উপর ছোট নমুনা গবেষণা সম্ভাব্য সুবিধার পরামর্শ দেয়।[৯][১০] যাইহোক, সমকক্ষ পর্যালোচনা এই গবেষণার গুণমান ও নমুনার আকার নিয়ে প্রশ্ন তোলে।[১১][১২]
